Alfred Lloyd was born in Manchester, Jamaica in a little town called Spaulding. He is the first of six children. He has four surviving siblings, having lost his only brother in a freak accident back in 2000.
Alfred’s early musical influences include the famous Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and especially Gregory Isaacs. Rather than following an Artist as in becoming a ‘fan’, Alfred prefers to listen to and support those songs and performers whose work sound good or appeals to him.
Alfred Lloyd spent his secondary school years boarding at Clarendon College, in Chapelton, Jamaica. He was later to do a stint studying business at CAST, as the institution was then known.
His first published song was entitled ‘unconditionally’. This was recorded by Deborah Glasgow for Gussie Clarke back in 1989. As a youngster then, the potential was good, as the sky was the limit. He was working as a songwriter with a record producer who could do nothing wrong, putting out hit after hit after hit. The future seemed bright and positive…
Alfred later migrated to the USA though and lost that contact with Gussie Clarke. He tried producing stuff on his own, but this did not work out the way that he would like, at least not until he met the master engineer Osborne ‘Ifield’ Joseph, with whom he formed a bond that is still intact today.
Alfred Lloyd does not like to be compared to another human. He firmly believes that he is special and that he was especially created by Almighty God, Jehovah to liberate the masses through his music. He is an individual whose thoughts and ideas transcend music and the routine of life. He believes that the word ‘conformity’ is used to describe lesser mortals who continue to do what is expected of them and who never try to do anything else to improve their lot in life.
He works full-time now at a job that he enjoys (rare but true) but sees that job as a means to an end, and not as an end in itself. He has a ‘never say die’ attitude. This he applies to all aspects of his life. Nowhere can this be seen more than in his musical career to date. He has had to overcome many obstacles over the years but continues to trod on when many others would have (and many may already have) quit and resign themselves to the daily grind to do what they think is expected of them.
Up until this point Alfred writes and performs his own high-quality material and, while this may change in the future, he is proud of the quality of the material that he has recorded so far.
Among his best recorded songs to date, in his estimation, are MAMA and LET’S TALK, songs that he dedicates to his mother and to all the lovers out there. He says LET’S TALK captures the essence of how to resolve issues that will arise in every relationship. He is currently riding a crest of popularity as the universal response to his latest single Jah, Jah Jehovah, continues to grow.
Alfred Lloyd believes that Bob Marley was special. He (the late great Bob) is the only recording act to date who accurately spoke about the future for mankind. In his song ‘Get Up Stand Up” he says, “Most people think, Great God will come from the sky, take away everything and make everybody feel high… but if you know what life is worth, you will look for yours on Earth”. These powerful words, going against popular belief, is in direct reference to the statement made by Jesus Christ, recorded at Matt. 5:5, that the meek will inherit the earth. This fact is also stated at Psalm 37 verses 9-11, where it talks about the wicked being destroyed and the good being rewarded with unending life on the Land.
Alfred Lloyd has expressed his concern for the plight of the masses, so many of whom are enslaved to conflicting religious doctrines, taught by men who “have no love for humanity”. Harmonizing with the title of another of his many hit songs, he calls himself the “VOICE OF THE OPPRESSED”. He decries the sad fact that most of these individuals are victims who, willingly or unwittingly, submit themselves to the religious leaders of the churches, allowing themselves to be fleeced blindly, never once questioning, or seeking to verify the things that they are being taught.
Up to this point, not much is being said about his personal life, because he says that there is not a whole lot to say! Well, you already know what he looks like and more details about him will be published later… Oh, he is an American with Jamaican Roots, he is happily married, and he lives in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, USA.
For the future, Alfred aims to be the first Reggae act to be on stage at the Grammy awards (as opposed to being backstage) and to perform live there for the whole world to see. His aim is to take Reggae music to a level that it has never been before. He will be a household name as he continues to produce hit song after hit song, to have a perennial presence on the music charts worldwide. In his mind this is a new beginning and just the beginning. He has already said it in his prophetic hit song SOMEDAY I WILL…
