"I CUT MY TEETH ON COUNTRY MUSIC"
By JERRY WHITTOM
I cut my teeth in on county music-- on the Gulf of Mexico-
In Pascagoula, Mississippi-- where the southern breezes blow-
I was born in Louisiana-- but that's all I really know-
My daddy was a trucker-- and my mama can't be found-
The last time that they saw her-- she was leaving Birmingham-
With no family ties to hold me-- I just chase that country sound-
Roll on baby!
"Musical interlude"
That old Jukebox was my mother-- that old fiddle was her knee-
I could suckle on the banjo-- that Guitar would set me free-
I took a bus to Alabama-- took a train from Tennessee-
I’ll plant my feet down on the bayou-- that Mississippi’s calling me- I cut my teeth on country music-- and someday it’ll set me free- Here I come! I cut my teeth on country music-- Kitty Wells and Faron Young-
Ernest Tubb And Johnny Paycheck-- Rickey Flats and Earl Scruggs-
And I’m heading down to New Orleans-- one of these days I’m gunna- find my love-
Look out now! Here I come!
