Joining the army is not just about fighting, it is about keeping the peace, protecting your country, which unfortunately does mean sometimes you do have to go into battle.
When I grow up, gonna be a soldier boy, that’s what I told my daddy when I was only 9 years old. He sat me on his knee, told me he’d be proud of anything I wanna be, but there is nothing greater than to fight for liberty, like granddaddy used to do.
So when it came the time I signed on the dotted line, kissed my ma good bye saw a tear in my daddies eye, I battled far and wide, bullets were a flying, came the order charge, guys they were a dying, drummer boy would play I remember it like yesterday.
Don’t tell me that we’re brave, keeping King and country safe,
and though I can’t explain, why I’d do it all again, I’m just a soldier boy.
