The Unscripted, also known as Under Your spell, is a Folk song with operatic elements written and composed by singer-songwriter Tiki Black for her sophomore album The Sound of the Broken Wand. The track is her first single and the third track on the album. The song relates the difficulties of breaking out of the safety of the familiar no matter how much it inhibits our growths but also stipulates that we do eventually in our own time, to “resume this interrupted growth”. The song says ‘It was always going to be hard to let go’.
Under Your Spell
La vie en rose
You play, I pose / pause
The script starts well
Under Your Thumb
I found a roof
I found the proof
That I belonged
Chorus: It was always going to be hard to let go
And I found myself looking up for a nod
It was always going to be hard to let go
But I had to resume this interrupted growth
Under Your Thumb
I found a roof
I found the proof
That I belonged
On a tight leash
I felt so safe
I guess the chafe
Means I exist
Chorus: It was always going to be hard to let go
And I found myself craving the burn of your hold
It was always going to be hard to let go
But I had to resume this interrupted growth
Bridge (aah)
On a tight leash
I felt so safe
I guess the chafe
Means I exist
From the first drop
To the last breath
Till parts us death
I would have given it all
Chorus: It was always going to be hard to let go
And I found myself licking the salt off my wound
It was always going to be hard to let go
But I had to interrupt your growth
